Allow Time to Find the Right Dog Boarding Facility

Finding a proper dog sitter or dog boarding facility requires putting in research like you were searching for a child care facility. The timing of asking your family or friends to watch your dog doesn’t always work out when you most need dog boarding. Having an experienced dog boarder to care for your furry buddy while away or simply running late, can be both a blessing and relief. However, in-home dog boarders do become booked early, particularly over holidays and vacation time. Give yourself plenty of time to interview several dog sitters and this will allow you to find one that is trustworthy and whom you will be comfortable with.

A good dog sitter who runs a dog boarding business in their home will spend time with you over the telephone to answer your concerns and will require a meeting beforehand to go over important information :

  • Your pet should be allowed to roam freely, both inside and in the fenced-in backyard, to allow them to become acquainted with the surrounding environment
  • Your dog boarding provider should have plenty of water made available both during your visit & when you drop off your dog.
  • Your pet sitter will want to play and get to know your dog during this pre-visit and check for your dogs temperament and social ability with other dogs (if there happens to be one already boarded there).
  • Your dog sitter will require you to provide documentation showing the name of your vet and check to make sure that all inoculation are current and up-to-date .
  • This facility will take great care to mark down your pet’s likes and dislikes, his feeding agenda and ask questions regarding food allergies, allowable table food and which commands your dog knows and responds to
  • The pet sitter is knowledgeable of food hazards for your pet, such as being aware that raisins, grapes, avocados and chocolate are harmful to pets.

While it may take a little time to determine the sitter most appropriate for your situation, we know you will agree along with other pet owners, that the right sitter is worth his/her weight in gold.
